Santa Monica has always had a history of being the place for the rich and powerful. In the past, the likes of Will Rogers, Greta Garbo, Harold Lloyd, Mae West, Louis B. Mayer, Douglas Fairbanks and Mary Pickford, and William Randolph Hearst lived and mingled with rich visitors in the area. These days, you’re just as likely to see residents such as Jamie Lee Curtis, Ted Danson and Mary Steenbergen, Jane Fonda, Dennis Hopper, and Tom Selleck dining in restaurants and shopping in many of the stores.

Santa Monica is home to many major landmarks which attract sightseers to the community. There’s the Parkhurst Building, which was constructed by a former mayor of the city, Charles Parkhurst, and was designated a historical landmark in 1978. There’s the Miramar Hotel, which still exists today as a luxury hotel, which used to also be the home to stars such as Greta Garbo, its first resident after it was built. There’s the Miles Playhouse, built in 1929 and still used today to put on theater productions. And finally, the Looff Hippodrome, built in 1916 and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1987, built in a fantasy style with what looks like a merry-go-round on top of the building, and reminds people of what they imagined the Old West would have looked like if every community had a lot of money. And you can’t visit Santa Monica without going to Santa Monica Pier, which is loaded with amusement park attractions, shops, and restaurants.

Of course, Santa Monica is really known for its beach, aptly named Santa Monica Beach, which of course access the Pacific Ocean. With an average of 340 sunny days a year and a very temperate climate, it’s the perfect getaway for swimming, surfing, fishing and beach volleyball. There’s usually an ocean breeze which adds to the comfort, and the beach is kept very clean.

Finally, there’s some of the most spectacular houses in the world in Santa Monica. Many of them are older homes that have been refurbished and updated. There’s the Niemeyer-Strick home, built in 1964 by Oscar Niemeyer, a Brazilian architect who won the 1988 Pritzker Prize for design, but was originally not allowed to have his name on the permits because he supported communism at the time. There’s the Zuni House, built in 1923 in the style of Mayan architecture. And you have the Marion Davies Estate, which was built by William Randolph Hearst right on the ocean front for movie star Marion Davies.

Though Santa Monica is home to the rich and famous, the city also keeps a record of what they call “affordable units”, which can be obtained from any redevelopment agencies in the area. Consumers can find rental properties or regular residential properties all over the city, but most of it isn’t cheap. You will find multi-million dollar homes in Santa Monica, mainly close to the beach, and the prices will range from upwards of $8 million down to $290,000 for homes in the area. Leasing will average around $2,500 if people wish to go that route.

Just as much as purchasing of foreclosed or to be foreclosed properties are available elsewhere, a lot of people could also consider buying foreclosures in Santa Monica. Sometimes when people who engage in mortgage transactions with banks or local financial creditors, there are instances that keep them from fulfilling their end of the bargain, which results to the failure of coming up with money for any due payments related to the mortgage. These costs usually involve putting at stake many valuable properties the loaner has like his or her own house or land property.

Like any other place, buying foreclosures in Santa Monica means that buyers should be fully aware of the reasons why such houses or lots have been foreclosed by the financial establishments involved in the first place. Knowing whether the former owner of the properties foreclosed decided to give up the property that has been mortgaged or if he or she wasn’t able to come up with money for to redemption of the assets that have been placed as security interest for the bank or creditor giving the loan, can be valuable details to take note of prior to buying foreclosures in Santa Monica as well as anywhere else.

In general cases, it’s usually better one goes through substantial amounts of research on purchasing foreclosures prior to jumping into the industry. This wouldn’t be much of a problem, since there is an abundant supply of accessible sources of much needed information from all sorts of media forms from books to the internet. In fact, local banks and creditors themselves are more than willing to assist any prospected clients in buying foreclosures in Santa Monica simply because such purchases are done for their interest and benefit as well.

When this happens, the transaction is closed and there’s no turning back. Naturally, nobody would want to end up in a totally opposite situation as what was really imagined when the buyer wanted that foreclosure – losing money instead of gaining benefits equal to what his or her money was worth. Buying foreclosures in Santa Monica or anywhere else for that matter should be well planned and discussed with all parties concerned to avoid regrets in the transactions which may otherwise be non negotiable after the deal has been sealed.

If you are a visitor to Southern California, or even a local, one of the best places to run is on Ocean Front Walk that runs along the beach between Santa Monica and Venice.A stroll in Santa Monica will be a highlight of your trip in California. The neighborhood is truly charming, the atmosphere is excellent, the scenery is beautiful and the former homes of the stars are fascinating. There are two walks not to miss – the 3rd Street Promenade and Santa Monica Pier.

The 3rd Street Promenade is a very romantic and very popular pedestrian street. This is the heart of the city of Santa Monica. The evenings and the weekends are particularly lively with many musicians and street performers. The 3rd Street Promenade is lined by restaurants and shops, often very nice, which stay open late. There are also many bars, cafes and cinemas nearby.

In the ocean, the Santa Monica Pier is a long wooden jetty which was completed in 1921. It is the oldest marina in the American West. Today, the Santa Monica Pier is packed with restaurants, shops and a fun fair which will delight children. The carousel is well known in film, and it dates from 1922. The walk along the beach should absolutely go through here, if only for the atmosphere. The street performers animate the dock music. With a little luck, you can even see authentic Californian surfers listening to the music of the Beach Boys!

Santa Monica is located west of the city, north of the airport. To get there you can take the Santa Monica Freeway. The bike path along the beach is several kilometers long and can take you to Venice Beach.

Venice Beach is together with Malibu Beach, the most famous film with its long track for bikes and rollerblades. Yes, Venice is one of the few neighborhoods in Los Angeles that is closed to motor vehicles. It is therefore the ideal place to unwind and enjoy the incredible atmosphere of the place.

Initially, Venice was a small resort. After a trip to Venice in the early twentieth century, the wealthy property owner decided to make this neighborhood the Venice California. He then undertook the construction of canals and buildings recalling the architecture of the city of Doges. Poorly designed, the canals were filled 20 years later, but the district retained the name of Venice.

The Venice neighborhood is particularly known for being the Mecca of the hippie movement in Los Angeles. Jim Morrison particularly enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere of this neighborhood and this is where the legendary group the Doors was formed. Today, traces of that era are still treated in Venice. Indeed, the days attract many street artists, old hippies and fringe that animate the neighborhood.

Nevertheless, Venice is not nearly as cool as in the 1960s. It is strongly recommended not to visit the area after nightfall. At this time, the area belongs to the gang. Attacks are many, but rest assured, there is nothing to fear during the day. However, the area is much protected, as tourism requires.

Today, Venice is a permanent show where street performers entertain passersby in a very friendly atmosphere. We find musicians, speakers, dancers, jugglers, and other fire-eaters. The attractions of Venice also pass through the small stands of exotic products and the huge murals that adorn the area. Do not forget the beautiful women passing by and the roller body men who show off their muscles in the gym outdoor… The whole is a multifaceted entertainment and contrasting assembly, so representative of America.

Los Angeles vacations are fun for the whole family. When looking at vacation packages and travel deals to Los Angeles make sure to bundle and save your vacations. Buying the car, flight, hotel, and activities all at once will increase the savings on your trip.

There are plenty of wonderful beaches in Southern California. If you remember the old Beach Boys song, Surfin USA, you can probably name several. But the Santa Monica beach is the best. Designated one of “10 Great Public Spaces in the U.S.” by the American Planning Association, Santa Monica beach has something for everyone – fun activities, great views, and plenty of places to grab something to eat or drink.

If you’re coming to Southern California, it’s easy to reach from almost everywhere, even the airport. That is less than ten miles from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), so you can even make it your first stop. Just take Selpuveda to Lincoln. From the San Fernando Valley, you don’t even have to get on a highway. Take one of the canyon roads to the Pacific Coast Highway. There are some good Santa Monica hotels you can use as a basis.

The wide, golden-sand beach stretches for three and a half miles along the coast, and the weather is nearly always perfect. In fact, it’s sunny here 340 days a year. When you visit, watch for TV and movie crews, which shoot here regularly.

Each morning, the beach is raked and cleaned, and lifeguards are on duty all day long. You can bring your own beach towel or your own beach chair and just enjoy the scene. Or lease from Perry’s. Their beach butlers will provide you with a table, chair, and umbrella.

Put on lots of sunscreen or wear a hat. And sunglasses will help protect your eyes and add to your appreciation of all the perfectly fit beachgoers. Don’t be surprised if one of them turns out to be a celebrity.

The ocean is nearly always cool here, even on hot days. But when it’s 100 degrees in the valleys, it likely will still be pleasant here. Surfing is permitted in designated areas between certain lifeguard stands. If you’ve never surfed, you can usually arrange for a lesson, or rent a surfboard or boogie board from Perry’s.

The recently reopened Annenberg Community Beach House used to be the estate of William Randolph Hearst. The five-acre, ocean-front property has a wonderful swimming pool that’s open to the public by reservation in summer, a café, and beach rentals.

If you don’t want to sit or swim, you can rent a bike and take the coastal trail. One of the world’s longest beachfront trails, it runs 22 miles from Malibu to Torrance. Skates, skateboards, roller blades, and other non-motorized transportation are also permitted.
